Adjunct ProfessorPositionHumanities FacultyThis position affords the successful candidate with theopportunity to teach humanities to college-level students. Courses will betaught in July and August of 2016. Our program is designed for Chinesevocational-technical college students who are in a new 3-year program thatallows them to study for one additional year in the United States (US)following graduation from their vocational-technical college. During theircalendar-year in the US they will study to complete a bachelor’s degree intheir field. Students must complete 27 credit hours (9 courses) of Americangeneral education courses before the conclusion of their vocational diplomaprogram while in China. They also study English to earn a minimum score of 71on the IBT TOEFL exam so that they are well prepared for academic Englishimmersion upon arrival in the United States. We seek energetic candidates, witha sense of humor, who are team players with a passion for helping students tolearn, develop and grow. Applicants may apply to teach one orboth of the following general education humanities courses: - HUM 1020: Introduction toHumanities (45 contact hours, 3 credits)This course is designed topromote the understanding and appreciation of humanity’s cultural heritage fromthe prehistoric period to the 21st century. Representative works inarts, music, literature and philosophy will be studied, with an emphasis placedon the interrelationships of these various art forms. Global culturalism willbe incorporated into the course content. - EUH 1000: Western Civilizationto 1600 (45 contact hours, 3 credits)This course traces the rise ofWestern civilization from 1000 B.C.E. to Renaissance, c. 1600. It emphasizesGreek civilization including drama, mythology, philosophy and the origins ofGreek democracy and then examines the late Roman Republic and early RomanEmpire followed by the rise of Christianity, Islam, the Byzantine Empire, the“Flowering Medieval Culture” and the Christian Synthesis of the late MiddleAges. The European Renaissance and the Reformation including social, politicaland philosophical issues will be discussed.Responsibilities:1. Implement ateaching style that engages students and heightens their enthusiasm forlearning by utilizing teaching best practice;2. Have outstandingcommunication skills that include the ability to present clear and logical conceptsto students;3. Seek toactively build strong professional relationships with students and colleagues. Requirements:1.A minimum of a MAis required in the humanities area or a master’s in another field and 18graduate level credit hours in humanities. Evidence of successful teaching atthe college/university level is preferred. 2.Must possess anoutstanding command of spoken and written English. Applicants who are Chinese (non-nativespeakers of English) must have earned a TEM 8 (Chinese Test for English Majors)and present their original certificate; 3. Previous documented teaching experience is required andmust be well detailed on your resume,Applicants who are non-native speakers that have taken theIBT TOEFL or IELTS, please include your score on your resume;4. Outstanding pronunciation and communication skills areessential; 5. Strong public speaking skills are necessary and candidateswith overseas experiences are preferred;6.The ideal candidates have the background and experience we are seeking, will begood team players and possess a sense of humor that includes the ability tolaugh at oneself.
